3 angles on the stray animal problem:

1) Unwanted litters and unsterilized animals are part of the problem so spaying and neutering is part of the solution.

2) The abandonment of unwanted/uncontrollable pets is another part of the problem, so encouraging and teaching people to train their pets is another part of the solution.

3) A shelter full of beautiful and innocent dogs and cats is the tragic result of the above two problems;  although most animals in the shelter have the potential to become great pets, at present 90% of the dogs and cats that arrive at the local shelter are put to sleep.  We hope to find ways to improve shelter animals' short lives, and to up their chances for adoption.

We need people who love animals and we actually really need people who don't like animals very much (especially people who don't like dogs!).  Whether you enjoy working with animals or whether you don't want to come near them, please let me know if you're interested in helping out, because we need all kinds of help.

Various projects include:

1) Spaying and Neutering :
carrying out an A.I.R. CNR (capture/neuter/release) campaign;
organizing the funding to support a CNR van for Yilan county;
petitioning the county gov. to change its official policy from "Catch and Euthanize" to "Catch, Neuter, and Release;"
promoting spaying and neutering in the community through posters, seminars, schools, and bushibans.

2) Training and teaching:
organizing training seminars for county pet owners;
obtaining materials which English teachers can use to teach responsible pet care during English class;
creating hand-outs and videos in Chinese promoting responsible pet care and training;
organizing school presentations;
translating this website into Chinese.

3) Shelter support:
collecting toys for shelter dogs;
organizing a foster/training program in conjunction with the shelter;
helping the shelter make/distribute posters/website pages advertising available dogs.
photographing, exercising, and training shelter dogs.
